On November 17th 1977, ten (10) persons attended the Inaugural meeting of the General Insurance Association of Barbados under the Chairmanship of Mr. H. L. (Bert) Toppin who served for one year.  Over the years, the G.I.A.B had ten presidents and in 1997 abandoned the status of Association to become a non-profit Company.
